AHA HeartSaver AED CPR (We recommend this course for those in non-healthcare fields)

The Heartsaver AED course teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child, and infant victims.  Extensive practice on mannequins is covered in this video led course.  All standard HeartSaver courses offered by the Holliston Fire Dept. now include Adult/Infant/Child Modules and the use of the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).  The Infant section may be omitted for private courses.

Who's this Class For:  All lay rescuers, such as employees in the workplace, daycare employees, babysitters, firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards, camp counselors, bus drivers, life-guards, family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death (most of us), other lay rescuers, and those who may have a need to respond to an emergency (all of us!).

Length of Class:  3 – 3.5 hours (depends on number of students).

AHA HealthCare Provider CPR

The HealthCare Provider Course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages including recognizing and treating life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child, and infant victims (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen) as well as the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).  It is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital.

Test:  Required for completion card

Who's this Class For:  Healthcare providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows or medical nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, and other allied health personnel.

Length of Class:  Approx 4.5 hours

AHA BLS for HealthCare Provider (CPR) Core Instructor Course

The American Heart Association’s BLS Instructor Course is a 2-day program plus monitoring session designed to prepare instructors to teach resuscitation programs to potential BLS providers. The course will provide:

	The AHA’s educational philosophy, policies and procedures
	BLS subject matter as a knowledge base
	Necessary teaching methods and educational aids
	The opportunity to develop and refine presentation skills

After completing the American Heart Association BLS Instructor Course, participants should be able to:

	Present didactic material related to BLS effectively
	Use adult education concepts and appropriate teaching strategies
	Demonstrate the skills of CPR, the use of AED and relief of FBAO according to AHA guidelines
	Evaluate basic provider candidates in a simulated situation
	Use appropriate course scheduling and record-keeping procedures
	Demonstrate proper manikin decontamination techniques

Prerequisite: Current BLS Healthcare Provider status

Required for course completion:

	Completed Instructor Candidate Application
	Demonstration of acceptable provider skills
	Signed commitment to teach at least 4 courses in a 2-year period
	Score of 84% or better on the written BLS Instructor exam
	Established alignment with one AHA training center
	Demonstration of instructor potential through observation and monitoring while teaching one course

Length of Class:  16 hours

National Safety Council First Aid

Video and lecture based training includes recognition and treatment of seizures, bleeding and shock, wounds, burns, head and spine injuries, joint and muscle injuries, sudden illnesses (fainting, diabetic emergencies), poisoning, cold and heat related emergencies.  Focus is on recognition, scene safety and control, contacting emergency resources and providing First-Aid prior to the arrival of Emergency resources.

National Safety Council Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens

Video and lecture based training focuses on Universal Body Precautions for the Healthcare Provider or general public.  Recommended for all that are certified in CPR, First Aid, First Responder, EMT and all other Healthcare Professionals.  Identification of Blood and Airborne pathogens and the Universal Body Precautions we all should take to avoid exposure.

Length of Class:  2 hours
